Casperius 2018
£40.00
This unique and expressive wine made from a 70/30 blend of Sangiovese from the old vines of the “Poggio Cuccule” cru and Syrah takes its name from the Roman general Aelianus Casperius, who lived in the local area at the beginning of the first millennium. This wine is best decanted to reveal aromas of red fruit, dried herb, violet, leather, and mint notes. The Syrah and Sangiovese work beautifully together to give a fuller body that tastes of red cherries, blackberries with a super long finish. This is great to drink now with a Sunday roast, grilled steak or mushroom risotto but will also develop in complexity for the next 5 to 10 years.
