Piazzano Colorino IGT Rosso Toscana

Rarely seen as a single varietal wine, Colorino as the name suggests is more commonly used to add colour, depth and structure to the lighter sangiovese used in Chianti, but thankfully the Bettarini family at Fattoria Piazzano has given this unsung hero of a grape a place to shine. After hand-selecting the best grapes followed by a soft press, the wine is fermented with native yeasts in cement tanks before ageing in French oak for 6 months. The result is a wine with an intense deep-dark red colour. It has aromas of dark fruit, and violets with a hint of spice and leather from the oak aging.

The taste is a burst of blackcurrants with hints of liquorice supported by soft velvety tannins and a long finish. Pair with lentil stews, parmigiana or with a cheese board after dinner.
