Vulcanus Merlot IGT Veneto

This is a powerful, intense, full-bodied red wine from our new award-winning producer, Le Carezze.  Made from PIWI Merlot grapes that are dried (appassimento) for 3 months to lose weight and increase the concentration of sugar, aromas, and structure before gently pressing. The juice is fermented for 40 days at 18˚C, then transferred to American oak barriques for 12 months before bottling.

This is a classic “Right Bank” Bordeaux-style wine with great structure and complexity. Although still young, it already has aromas of leather, tobacco and liquorice that are typical of the finest Bordelaise wines. The taste is intense, ripe black cherry, and plum, with vanilla notes. This wine blew me away when I first tasted it and I knew it had a place on our exclusive list of wines. Drink with roast dinner, red meats or cheeseboard or as a “contemplation wine” after dinner.
